US Adult Soccer Association team, Hollywood United made a huge upset by beating Portland Timbers 3-2 to open the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The match was played in front of a PGE Park crowd of 3,089. The wining goal was scored in the stoppage time of the second half.
The Timbers started slow but drew first blood in 31st minute when forward Chris Brown knocked in a perfectly placed free kick from about 25 yards. But in the 44th minute, Hollywood United's Matt Taylor equalized through a penalty. Portland's Takayuki Suzuki missed a spot kick in the 50th minute. But midfielder Arsene Oka made up for it less than a minute later by heading in a goal. 2-1.
Hollywood United's Taylor tied the game at 2 a piece in the 57th minute by converting another penalty kick and lastly Earl Alexander scored the winner in the dying minutes.
