From R&R: Clear Channel/Philadelphia OM Thea Mitchem is headed back to Washington, D.C., not to fill the vacant PD post at her former place of employment, CBS Radio urban WPGC-FM, but to accept the OM position for the Clear Channel/ Washington-Baltimore cluster.
She will also replace the recently departed Jeff Kapugi as PD of CHR/top 40 WIHT (Hot 99.5)/Washington. The other stations under her purview are AC WASH, classic hits WBIG, gospel WCAO, alternative WCHH, country WMZQ, country WPOC, sports WTEM and alternative WWDC.
Mitchem began her radio career at WPGC in the mid-1990s working in research, music and programming. She was eventually elevated to MD and in November 2001 she earned her first PD position when she segued to Baltimore to launch co-owned urban WXYV (X105.7). Despite the station’s consistent growth in its target 18-34 demo, WXYV was abruptly flipped to talk after about two years.
