Argentina May Miss WC 2010Goal Scorer : Nelson Valdes

Argentina may miss 2010 WC after 1970. Their hopes of reaching South Africa next year took a knock when they were beaten by Paraguay 1-0 in Asuncion. In the 27th minute Nelson Valdes kicked a superb goal and pushed Argentina in the play-offs. Argentina were reduced to 10 men when mid-fielder Juan Sebastian Veron was shown the red card in the second half. After Wednesday's defeat, the two-time World Cup champions, temporarily in the fifth place with 22 points from six wins, four draws and six losses, was left in real danger of missing out on the finals.

WC Qualifiers: Paraguay Wins; Brazil Draws; Argentina Loses

Brazil's coach was Dunga insulted after being held to their second successive home goalless draw in the World Cup qualifiers, this time against Colombia, on Wednesday (15th October 2008).

The draw , which followed last month's stalemate with Bolivia, kept them second in the 10-team South American group with 17 points from 10 matches but they fell six behind leaders Paraguay, who beat Peru 1-0.

Colombia stayed seventh with 11 points and just in contention for a place at their first World Cup since 1998.

Fabian Orellana scored on debut for Chile to top Argentina 1-0 for the first time in official competition in World Cup qualifying on Wednesday.

Chile had previously beaten Argentina only in friendlies, and the last was in 1973.

Harry Kewell Called in Australian Squad For WC Qualifier

Harry Kewell has been recalled to the Australian squad for next month's World Cup qualifier against Uzbekistan in Tashkent on Sept. 10 in the opening Group A fixture of the final round of Asian qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup. Japan, Bahrain and Qatar are the other teams in the group.

Kewell, now with Turkish club Galatasaray, missed Australia's 2-2 friendly draw against South Africa in London last week but returns to the side after overcoming a minor injury.

The Australians will play a friendly against the Netherlands in Eindhoven on Sept. 6 to help prepare of the Uzbekistan match.

Canada In The Next Round Of World Cup Qualifying

Canada are in the nest round of World Cup qualify. On Friday night they defeated St.Vincent and the Grenadines 4-1.

Yesterday's hero was Canada's Dwayne De Rosario who plays for MLS Houston Dynamo. He scored 2 goals and set the other for Ali Gerba who scored the other 2. Ali Gebra plays for German club Ingolstat.

Dwayne De Rosario opened the scoring for Canada in the 29th minute. Gebra made it 2-0 in the 38th minute. In the 50th minute Rosario again scored and in the 63rd minute, Gebra completed the onslaught. Marlon James of St.Vincent and the Grenadines pulled one back.

Canada now will be grouped with Mexico, Honduras, and Jamaica in the next round, which begins in August.

Argentina Draws With Brazil 0-0, Paraguay Leads The Table

Argentina drew with Brazil 0-0 in the World Cup qualifier game in Belo Horizonte's Mineirao stadium even though Argentina dominated the second half.

Brazil played well in the first half. Roberto Abbondanzieri, Argentine goalkeeper produced a outstanding save from Julio Baptista's close range shot.

Argentina's Julio Cruz and substitute Sergio Aguero missed excellent chances while Lionel Messi was foiled by Julio Cesar and fired wide from the rebound in stoppage-time.

Columbia also drew with Ecuador 0-0, making Columbia the only un-beaten country after six matches in the 10-team group. Paraguay lost 2-4 to Bolivia in Bolivia.

Paraguay still lead the 10-team group with 13 points followed by Argentina with 11 points. Columbia are with 10 points and Brazil are placed 4th with 9 points. Uruguay are with 8 points.

Diego Forlan's Hatrick Helps Uruguay Beat Peru 6-0

Diego Forlan scored a hat-trick to help his country Uruguay rout Peru 6-0 in their World Cup qualifier on Tuesday at Centenario stadium in Montevideo.

Carlos Bueno scored two goals and substitute Sebastian Abreu scored the final goal in the final minute.

Peru striker Paolo Guerrero was sent off after 39 minutes for furiously protesting the penalty which led to the second goal.

Uruguay, who had drawn their last two home games, moved on to 8 points from six games while Peru, beaten 5-1 in Ecuador in November, remained on 3 points.

Peru also lost 4-0 to Mexico in a friendly 10 days ago and the latest setback is widely expected to cost coach Jose del Solar his job.

World Cup Qualifier: USA 8 v/s Barbados 0

USA routed Barbados 8-0, a record by a US soccer team. The Americans started in the 54 seconds through Clint Dempsey and led 3-0 in the breather. Michael Bradley scored the 2nd goal in the 12th minute. Brian Ching scored 2 goals, the teams's third and the seventh. The fourth was scored by Donovan in the 60th minute. Eddie Johnson scored in the 82nd minute. Oguchi Onyewu was the only US player to receive a yellow card in the 1st half.

World Cup Qialifier: 10-Man Paraguay Beats Brazil 2-0

Paraguay had a wonderul night today. 10-man Paraguay thrashed Brazil 2-0 in the World Cup Qualifier. Argentina held Ecuador 1-1 with a stoppage time equaliser in another qualifier.

Chilie defeated Bolivia 2-0 in Bolivia. Gary Medel scored the 2 goals for Chile.

Paraguay are now three points clear at the top of the 10-team group with 13 points from five games. Argentina are second with 10, followed by Colombia (9) and Brazil (8).

Dario Veron of Paraguaoy was sent off in the 48th minute and the two goals were scored by Roque Santa Cruz in the 26th minute and Savador Cabanas in the 49th minute.
