Winner of six gold medals and two bronze in Athens Olympics 2004, Michael Phelps has booked a ticket to this year's summer Beijing Olympics 2008. On Sunday he won the 400-meter individual medley with a world record time of 4 minutes, 5.25 seconds at the US Olympic swimming trials.In the women's section too, there was World Record made, when Katie Hoff clocked 4 minutes 31.12 seconds in the final of the women's 400-meter individual medley. Elizabeth Beisel finished second.
In Phelps' race, Ryan Lochte finished in 4:06.08, with that also under the previous world mark. Phelps held the previous world record at 4:06.22, set at last year's world championships in Australia.
Michael Phelp is now eyeing on Mark Spitz's World Record of 7 gold medals in a single Olympic event, which he accomplised in 1972 Munich Olympics.
